ABOUT BRI

Bri Frey (b. Cincinnati, OH) is a Detroit-based visual artist whose practice centers on the human figure as a site of memory, trauma, and reclamation. Working primarily in paint and fiber, Frey’s work explores the complexities of embodiment through layered, intimate compositions that merge personal narrative with broader cultural critique.

Rooted in figurative traditions yet informed by contemporary feminist discourse, her work challenges conventional representations of the body—shifting the gaze, exposing vulnerability, and asserting autonomy. Frey’s visual language is deeply autobiographical, drawing from her lived experiences to create work that is both confrontational and empathetic.

She holds a BFA in Illustration from the College for Creative Studies (2023). Her work has been exhibited across Detroit, including shows at Galerie Camille, the Scarab Club, the Janice Charach Gallery, and Henry Ford College. In 2023, her pieces Teenage Rebellion and doyoumindgivingmemyshot were recognized in 3x3 Magazine Annual No. 20, receiving both merit and honorable mention awards.

Frey lives and makes in Detroit, MI.
