Wool Over the Eyes, Sheep Fleece, 8x5.5x2” 2025
1.5 billion pounds of sheep's wool is wasted annually. Wool Over the Eyes critiques the unethical practices of the meat, fashion and textile industries. Creating a needle-felted sculpture, I sought to source the raw fleece locally—only to find it either already discarded, unavailable, or priced beyond budget despite being considered a waste product. The disconnect between abundance and access reflects a broader system that undervalues natural materials while promoting synthetic alternatives. The form questions not only our material choices, but the systems that obscure more sustainable options in favor of profit and convenience.
Wool Over the Eyes will be on display at CCS Center Gallery from September 5 – 27, 2025. This exhibition will be part of the Detroit Month of Design and is curated by Cristin Richard’s House of Raw. More details here.
